My Sept/Oct copy of Southern Traveler just arrived, and the cover story is about trips to see fall foliage. I'm thinking it's a bit late for that, but it's never too late for a road trip. With gas prices inching back down, it could be economically feasible to hit the road again.
Last year I spent just about every Saturday on the road (that would explain the 30,000 miles I put on my car in a year). Being in Hattiesburg has been a difficult adjustment for me, and there were times when I felt like the walls were closing in on me. Get in the car, though, and head off into the wind, and it's all better.
So, I've been in some interesting places in South MS and AL, but I'm always game for another adventure.
What are your favorite there-and-back in a day trips?

I haven't been able to go on one lately. Can I stow away in your car the next time you take a road trip fuzzis?

The wife and I used to like going to Biloxi for the day ... :smt086
We'll just have to try for Natchez now.

You're more than welcome to come with, but you must be aware that I could very probably get us into some interesting situations. Like the time I spent a forced afternoon with an old man who blocked my car in when I stopped to take a photo of an abandoned shack that was covered in resurrection fern (I think that's what it was). I wound up having a coke with him and his 93 year old mother, during which time he told me I had pretty hair and pretty eyes and wouldn't I like to get married? :smt103
Or the time I was almost attacked by the carrion birds, trying to get a picture of an abandoned church.
Detailed maps are a godsend.
Oh...and you have to agree to listen to my tunes. I operate under the driver-controls-the-radio theory. :D

Take a trip over to the Windsor Ruins or the ghost town of Rodney... north of Natchez, then, swing back through Natchez for dinner!

Hey, as long as you are driving, I'll listen to anything! :D
My best friend and I used to take road trips to New Orleans a lot. He was from New Mexico, and have never been to NO until he moved out here to go to college. We also made a few trips out to Dallas. My big thing now is an annual trip out to Phoenix to visit him now that he has moved out there.

I've been to Windsor, but never Rodney. Where exactly is it?
