 OK.
Heh heh heh
. . . . factory loaded 22 LR rimfire ammo . . . . Who the @#$$ hand loads rimfire cartridges???
It's actually possible, but its a real serious pain.
Believe it or not . . . Well, yeah, I believe it. Some people get obsessed - or just plain goofy.
. . . . ain't worf de trobble.Sure doesn't seem worth the trouble to me.:smt102
I've been reloading center fire 'stuff' for years but have never managed to improve on commercial cartridges - except Remington.
I just do it 'cause I like puttering around with it.
But rimfire??? Nah!!! No Way!! Buy match grade and get on with it.:-D
Which cal. rifle is your most accurate?A .22 cal single shot, bolt action Springfield my Dad bought in 1935 - from Montgomery Wards. He remembers paying about $15.00 for it - including shipping.:)
I was a bit too brief - when I said I never managed to improve upon factory ammo, I meant I have never been able to improve on factory match grade 7.62mm NATO ammo.

Hawk, you're gonna shoot my turkey for me, right? ;)
Hi Hawk.
It's a Savage Model 110. Nothing fancy. It's a working gun, not for show and tell.:)
It'll shoot into a 1-1/4 inch circle at 100 yards with just about any ammo if somewhat supported - folded coveralls across the hood. It'd be hard to improve on that under those conditions, and, I'm sure, I'm probably the limiting factor there.:smt022Heh heh heh
I'm not a bench rest/ competition type shooter, so - I'm happy.:-D
Without looking at my notebook - one of the better loads I worked up was 150 gr boat tail, about 40 or 42 grains of BLC(2) and Remington cases - neck sized only.
It's been a few years and I've kinda gotten away from shooting sports and loading - I've had to work too much overtime and too many Saturdays the past 8 or 10 years. Yuck.
Ted,
You're already talk'n over my pay grade.Oops!!:smt103 I surmised that you had some experience with handloading.
Like most other endeavors, it has it's own jargon, nomenclatures, and terminologies. You'll catch on quickly. Promise.:)
I have no experience w/ custom loading but looking forward to the task . . . . I'm sure you'll like it.
. . . . at my ancient age.:):)Heh heh heh Fiddlesticks!!!
Peeking at your public profile - I'm about 9 months older that you are. We're just 'well seasoned' and 'highly experienced' - in our extended late youth.
De man claims it'll put three in a dime @100 off the Harris Bi-Pod . . . . Very likely. Those XP-100s have a reputation for very fine accuracy.
. . . . earmuffs . . . .Yes!!! Absolutely!!
Granted, they are an annoyance, but you'll get accustomed to them pretty quickly. I highly recommend 'em. Mine are a permanent feature in my old work truck - along with a lotta other accumulated junk.
. . . . to save my last 25%. Boy!! I'm with ya there!
