Oak Grove 10-0 opening round at home against Gulfport
Lumberton rolls to the second round!! is usm recruiting the running back?
Hattiesburg 1st round at George County
Wayne County best team in the state?
West Jones beats FCAHS to advance to second round
Do I see a vbookie on Oak Grove in the future? South Panola? huh?

Hawk, go to www.clarionledger.com (http://www.clarionledger.com) and click high school sports stats....I know on it you can look up every school's game by game results. I am not sure if individual stats are up yet.
I'm not sure Wayne County's the best school in the state. I think there's a good chance Oxford or Clarksdale could take them in the north, and frankly, I have no doubt Oak Grove is better than WC.

I wouldn't count out HHS against George County....I think the entire 5A "Coast region" has been adversely affected by Katrina..and George County being the only school not in the three coastal counties benefitted. Oak Grove will likely blow out Gulfport Friday

I hope so! I have said before I would love a vbookie on high school. A couple don't want us to, but IMO there is no harm since this is all fake money anyway! No one truly gains or loses anything, especially with the lack of even a Hub store in which to spend Hub dollars.

One thing I dislike is the fact the Oak Grove will likely have to play Meridian on the road in the South State Final game if both teams advance that far. I think this is wrong, in that a team that wins its division should be rewarded by playing at home in the play-offs against any non divisional winner -- especially if they are from the same district. If two division winners face-off, it should be determined by a coin toss, head to head earlier in the season (if applicable), or best overall record.

I will go on the record as opposing betting on HS sports, no matter if it's real or fake money. Just the idea of it seems icky to me.
Maybe it's because I have kids who participate in HS sports and that idea seems "wrong" for some reason to me. Like betting on what my kids will make on their SATs, or like betting on Little League baseball.
It just doesn't seem right.

Like I said, it may be just because I have kids who play HS sports. I also know a bunch of the kids at HHS, OG and Petal. I just can't see myself betting for or against any of them.

I'm not so sure South Panola is in a class by itself anymore after listening to the Oak Grove game. The warriors are very potent on offense and defense.

Thanks Hubba.. now thats a website update.. next week games listed.. I wonder if oak grove will be on the road or at home?
lamarrebel
11-18-2005, 11:40 PM
I was at the game tonight and froze my butt off.....next weeks game will be against Ocean Springs and at Oak Grove. Ocean Springs knocked Oak Grove off in the South State Championship game last year, and I suspect it will be payback time. OS barely knocked off Brandon tonight 19-12 and last year's game was at Ocean Springs. I think Oak Grove will win by 3 TDs at least.

I'm not certain that it will be, but I remember last year Oak Grove lost to Meridian in the regular season and was lower seeded in the district, yet after upsetting Coast district top seed Gulfport in the first round got a home game against Meridian and beat them.
lamarrebel
11-19-2005, 07:47 AM
Apparently if you are a district champion, and then play someone from your own district you beat at home during the regular season, you have to play them on the road in the play-offs. South Panola Friday is having to go on the road and play a 6-6 Columbus team they manhandled, along with everyone else, during the regular season. I just do not believe this is fair. Like the NBA, NHL, and NFL, teams should be rewarded during the play-offs for their performance in the regular season.
I think we should all be pulling for George County to beat Meridian next week.. Although both GC and OG are district champs, I think OG would get the home field in that matchup because both will have already played 2 home games in the play-offs, the two didn't play in the regular season, and Oak Grove has a better overall record.

Somebody showed me a letter to the meridan paper about the oak grove fans taunting them. How when they (meridan fans) arrived at oak grove they were met by fans dressd as indians and the school admin was allowing it. I dont remember exactly all about the letter to the editor but I do know meridan fans are ready for us to come to their home turf..

If OG turns the ball over 5 times like they did against Ocean Springs last night against SP, they will get clobbered. If they play like they did against Gulfport and Hattiesburg, they'll make a real game of it.

Oak Grove beat them pretty handily six weeks ago or so....but certainly revenge will be on the minds of Meridian. This is probably the best match-up of the night. I see Lumberton as a clear favorite against Perry Central and Wayne County should beat West Jones.

12-03-2005, 09:38 AM
Yep....the QB threw four INTS....and then gave a bad exhange in the 4th quarter which led to a fumble that Meridian ran back for a TD. Oak Grove had just scored to make it 40-34 Meridian...and had recovered an onside kick....with five minutes or so to go when this happened. There will always be next year I guess.

That call on its face did sound pretty ridiculous-- of course, Kelly Sanner does get carried away sometimes as well. In truth, I again do not understand why Meridian had home field in that game. Oak Grove won the district and Meridian had three losses -- the game should have been down here to reward Oak Grove for it's regular season performance. South Panola will beat Meridian by 3 touchdowns...and that may even be conservative.

Check out the Indy website, seem like I saw something there today that said CSS would be covering the playoffs.

In the Clarion Ledger today was an article that the games would be produced by Magnolia Productions, or something like that. ETV will not produce the shows, but some of the stations will carry them.
Also, the article said that Comcast would be carrying the games, but didn't say which channels, especially in this area. The only thing it did say was that a Fox station in the Jackson area would carry it, and other independent stations across the state, as well as AL, LA and a few other states would be able to get it.
I know that doesn't answer your question except to say that it will probably be on a cable station that you may not expect to see it on.
That said, my son and some of his pals went to see it live.

Here is the article.
CSS to air football play-off games
Despite five television stations airing live the Mississippi high school play-off football games, area stations are not. However, the Mississippi High School Athletics Association has struck a deal with CSS to air the games across the Southeast.
Three Pine Belt-area teams will play Friday and Saturday in Jackson for the title of state championship. Lumberton plays Simmons Friday at 2:30 p.m. for the 2A title, Wayne County plays West Point for the 4A title at 3 p.m. Saturday, and Mt. Olive plays Ray Brooks for the 1A title Saturday at 7 p.m.
CSS is aired locally on Comcast Cable channel 25. However, repeated attempts to reach Comcast Cable failed. Some of the games could be tape-delayed, or they could air live.
Stations airing the games in Mississippi include WUFX in Jackson, WTOK in Meridian, WABG in Greenville, WHCQ in Charleston, and WEBU in Webb.
