Anyone familar with these folks? They have recently taken to picketing the funerals of soldiers coming home from Iraq and Afghanistan, saying those deaths are evidence of god's judgement for our nation's acceptance of homosexuality.
In light of the discussion of the tragedy in West Virginia, I came across WBC's thoughts (http://www.godhatesfags.com/fliers/jan2006/20060104_twelve-dead-miners.pdf) on the deaths of those 12 men.
I'd like to be able to say that the people behind WBC are sick, but that places too much distance between them and me. I am sadden for and by them. I do have to wonder, though, how they got to the place htey have. What made them believe the way they do? What makes them believe they've chosen the right venues in which to express their views? And perhaps most disquieting, how do I know that I am not too close to the edge in my own beliefs? What trips the trigger and causes one to jump off into fanaticism?
