My son is looking for a job. He's still in high school, so he needs something after school and/or weekends. He's strong and very athletic and above average intelligence. Has own transportation.

Is hard-headed so a cattle prod may be needed from time to time. ;)

Please pm me here.

A lot of the options I [we] had at that age are off the table. Seems the biggest market today for part-time students is the fast food industry.
I started in grocery store at 13 bagging and stocking @ $0.85 p/hr. :smt102
yea hawk, and i`ll bet you carried the food out for the people too. remember those days?

It is hard for a kid his age to get a semi-permanent job. He's done a lot of odd jobs cleaning peoples' yards and mowing, and he referees soccer on the weekends during season, but is looking for something a little more steady.

I had several jobs when I was younger - a lot of farm-related work like plowing, bush hogging, hauling hay, etc. I also worked in a feed mill unloading trucks and train cars. But most companies won't hire a young kid because of insurance. But heck, working in a restaurant can be just about as dangerous if you're not careful.

I may have the perfect job for your son. Have you ever considered STOPS?

But what is STOPS?

Hubcap, he may also want to check with some of the construction companies around town...a few years ago I had a cousin on the coast who got hired to help clean up around residential building sites after the houses were finished...it was hard work but he made a killing...he also learned some building skills in the process of hanging around with the crews. He acted as a step & fetch-it when there was no cleaning to be done.

Dude, if you're going to post stuff like this, at least have the decency to post it in the "Love and Relationships" forum. :)

For younger kids I think making your own job can solve the employment problem.
When I was 13 I started crabbing. Unfortunately, there's no crabs around H'burg.
I did have a friend in college that baled pine straw. He sold it to people for their flower beds & stuff. Occasionally he got paid for raking it up.

My son's driving would probably give them a heart attack, so that may not be a good idea. Plus, he thinks he needs a jacked up 4 wheel drive truck, so it may be hard for them to get in and out. :smt103

Anyway, things are different than they were a year ago and right now he has his hands full. But thanks for posting that, it does sound like a good job for kids, and hopefully they can learn a lot from it as well as do something good for other people.
