View Full Version : Police academy director leaves for Petal
The director of the Hattiesburg Police Department's training academy will begin patrolling the streets of Petal next month.
"We'll drive on," he said.
Wynn also would not say who will supervise the remaining eight weeks of training for the 12 recruits scheduled to graduate on March 17.

Who are Clark and Gray and what relevance does their salary have to the rest of the story? Are they FTOs? New recruits? Does Janet Braswell know how to write or did her editor chop out an important paragraph?

I thought the same thing, fuzzis.
From what I can figure out, Clark and Gray are two hired by Petal.
I think somebody chopped out some important stuff, but what I could gather from what they said, those 2 are lateral transfers that HPD hired and they only have a 3 week course at the academy. BTW, Petal PD doesn't pay that much.
Thanks, IGID. The way that article was written made it hard to figure out.

Fuzzis is right in her posting above. -- What happened to Janet Braswell's writing skills?? I think some important information was edited out of these stories, and maybe because they were in a hurry to get the story in today's paper, someone did a poor job proofing before final print. :smt118

And in this statement (We'll drive on)... From the way it was written, it appears as though Lt. Fuller was saying it, but to me it sounds like Chief Wynn was the one saying it - about losing another officer.

Reality, I don't know who's who. Maybe the print article in the paper will be a bit clearer than this internet article.

Got a reply to my email from the HA and they said it was a website thing. Not Janet Braswell's writing skills. They also sent me both articles as attachments. I'm sure they're fine, but I don't open attachments from folks I don't know.

If taking a 12,000 dollar a year cut just to go across the tracks don't say something, they're not living in reality.

Dear Honorable Endurin' Citizens,
The only difference in the corruption we have been see'n with the Duprees administration, and say a city like New Orleans, is the size of our pop-alation.
DEMOCRATIC Maya is elected, and immediately removes former high rankin' officials with imcompetent DEMOCRATIC "Yes Men" to maintain his political power. Political incompetence leads to a downward spiral fo the infrastructure of the City, and loss of morale fo the honest taxpay'n employees and citizens. Just take a look downtown, and this evident everywhere.
The only way to remedy this sit-cheation is fo the honest citizens of Hattiesbuuurg to UNITE, and vote the incompetent Johnnie Duprees administration out next election.

Kudos to the HA for the quick response... More of the myhattiesburg memba's need to start the paper subscription... :smt118
already get the HA, and believe me, there is nothing PROMPT or QUICK about the paper delivery in the last few months... especially on Sundays!! have had 2 or 3 Sundays when paper came right before 12:00 noon or some time after! :smt070

But I think you gotta admit - the HA is a better paper today than it was before the hurricane.
On that note, however, it seems to me that the HA is dancing around the question of why is the HPD losing so many officers. It seems that they're running more stories about this, or maybe it's just because there are more stories like this one to run. But they're just hitting around the edges of it. I guess I've harped on this too much already, but every time a story like this runs, they just don't get into the meat of it.
We are so short staffed of officers that I am afraid the academy has probably been told to graduate anyone who enters into it. Sure do wish Fuller would tell the real story as to why he changed jobs. I bet it is because the police dept. building is so old. Ha! Had to get that in even if he didn't work in that same building.
I'm not sure, but I have a feeling one of the main reasons was they forced him to the academy. They didn't post it and take applications, they told him one day thats where he was going. Anybody that knows Fuller, knows he's a street cop, not a desk jockey and I'm sure there has to be some bitter feelings since one of the officers he went through the ranks with, Misenhitler, made him take the academy position. IMO

There are several officers that have been placed in positions that they are unhappy in. The chief has made it known that these moves were "Political". Well these political moves are killing our police department. We have quality officers that have training in specialty areas that should have been left alone.

Fuller forced? R U sure? Street and crazy hours versus desk 9-5? Raise with benefits-no hastle from street punks......sounds like a promotion....not a forced move.
Positive. Straight from the horses mouth to my ears the day he was told.

Fuller seems like a nice guy and from what I hear a well respected person, co worker/supervisor.....not a hot headed person...... he does not seem to be someone who does anything with out thinking it through......
Really come on.....everyone know why these guys are all leaving....It is because of the Hitler-acting authoritarian JERK that is running the department.
Dupree is not going to move him period. He will not bring Wynn to the council because he does not have to. Ask DUPREE and he will tell you that himself! He is keeping Wynn as long as he stays in office. Wynn is lying and he knows he is.
The men are not leaving because of some building-Fuller did not even work in that building! They are not going to speak up to the press.........Because after hitler and dupree are removed-they might want to come back!!!!!
Can the council cut off all funds until Dupree brings Wynn up? It would be great if they stopped payroll for all persons that have not been voted on. Let the dictator work for free.

I hate to hear he was forced.
Wynn makes me sick!
You're exactly right. They're not going anywhere and this b.s spin they have put on this crime being down makes me sick. They have ruined HPD. And will divide this city more than it already is and that's a shame.

You know...not to put a damper on these discussions, but...having been burned by things I've written online, one might want to carefully consider their words and whether they've revealed a bit too much about who they are. With myhattiesburg being quoted in local news sources, I would hate to see anyone get in any trouble.

You are right. The dictator might figure out which city job that I have and will force me to work in a broom closet. Or better yet.. pick up trash on the street next to the awful police building.
You're right. Those people are just the type of leaders that if you don't kiss their butts and agree with everything they do, they will pull out all the stops and do anything to make you quit or do something so they can fire you and they don't care how many leave. Thats probably what they want anyway. A dept. of mindless idiots that don't have a brain or question anything they do. At this rate, it won't be long. IMO

Just cleaning house peoples. Wynn will finish training these recruits unitl we can find some replacements. Until then i'll be training the new force on how to maneuver up on out of an office chair without ripping the seam of your pants, licking jelly filling off the fingers, getting an extra 2 inches out of your seat belt and steering a patrol car with your navel while eating lunch. :smt023

I heard a rumor that the Office Assistant at the Police Academy turned in her notice of resignation today. If this is true, I hear the Police Academy is another sinking ship since she knew pretty much everything about it. I understand she (Natasha I think?) has worked for the city for at least 8 or more years? Anyone else heard this? :smt102

There was a time in the previous administation when if you wanted to work at HPD you had to go through its training program because it was the best. Even if you had gone through a training program in Harrison co. or some other location, you had to go through Hattiesburg's program. And once you had been through the program you could apply to almost any police department in the country and it would accept you because H'burg was so highly ranked. I wonder if any of these recruits could transfer with such ease or would they look like a joke. I think it speaks poorly to our city protection when all we have left are inexperienced rookies trying to keep us safe. If the majority of officers are young with only a few years on the force, who are going to be their mentors? Who will they be able to turn to to learn and help them grow?
At this rate it won't take long and WDAM will sound like WHLT. The first 15 minutes of news is murder, shooting, stabbing, car jacking, armed robbery.... and now the weather.
I am glad I live under Billy Magee's protection and not Wynn's.
