I started a thread on this last year, and now the field has narrowed considerably, I wanted to reopen it. As it stands now, barring some unforseen factors (e.g. Haley Barbour not running for re-election), it appears that Republican primary voters next year will have to choose between State Auditor Phil Bryant and State Senator Charlie Ross of District 20 to be the GOP nominee for Lt. Governor. Both Nick Walters and Senator Alan Nunnelee have decided not to run?
Although Auditor Bryant is likely the frontrunner going in, do not count Senator Ross out. Ross has served in the Senate for 10 years, and drafted the comprehensive tort reform package adopted in 2004, which has been held out by tort reform advocates as a model for the nation. He is a graduate for the Air Force Academy and Harvard Law School, where he graduated with honors. He is a native of Eupora and now practices law with a prestigous firm in Jackson. He was very well received by the Lamar County Republican group last night, and presented the Committee a flag which previously flew over the State Capitol.
Bryant has served impeccably well as State Auditor, as well. These are two immeniently well qualified candidates and I look forward to an honest debate of the issues between them.
