View Full Version : Match-making?

Being a single fuzz, many of my friends think it is their duty to see me coupled. Nothing has ever come of the set-ups, but I've had some interesting dates. (One of these days I'm going to have an extremely funny book on the market)
The latest set-up is in the making...just have to email the boy back and see where it goes.
Any interesting match-making stories out there?

I introduced two people back in August of 2004. I was a mutual friend of two people. One of them was in a relationship and the other was single. However, the relationship ended and she was so sweet and perfect for this other guy. So I thought that they should meet. They did, and now they are getting married on February 11th! So exciting!!!

Noway-
Speaking of deleting numbers...that is the first thing I do. I do this for two reasons- 1. I don't want to "drunk-dial" ( well know what that is) and 2. it is the easiest way to make sure that the relationship has ended. No one knows anyone's phone number any more.. they are all saved in our cell phones, so if we delete it, we lose the only way we know to contact someone. Maybe she has this stragety also. I know my friends do. What a bummer for you though. (and a bit embarrasing)- Hey at least she replied... If I get a text from a number I don't know- I don't respond. You should try to stay away from your friends ex girlfriends, there is a reason they are your friends ex girlfriends. I don't date my friends ex boyfriends, there is a reason they are EX- if they were not good enough for my friend they are not good enough for me. You should try this.

Noway- it was love in the making with a trashy woman... come on... if she was trashy why was it love in the making? You are better than that... you gotta start looking around in different places.. you know my friend suggested to me to go to the singles night at temple baptist church. I asked her if she were single would she go to singles night at temple and she said no- i replied- then why on earth would you advise me to do it. I am willing to lay money down that you are not going to find a trashy girl at temple singles night. Maybe you should give that a try- even though I wouldn't do it- maybe I am one of those trashy girls...(depends on definition of trashy i guess)

Noway hang in there my brother. I can't blame you for wanting that trashy girl. You know when cupid shoots his bow, its hard to get out of the way. Biggie meets a lot of women at the super market. I put a case of beer in my buggy and when a girl says "looks like a party", I invite her to my crib. Don't make this complicated my brother.

But there is a difference in a woman being trashy in the bedroom vs trashy all the time. What a woman and her man do when alone is between them, but I feel a woman should present herself as sophisticated and respectful when in the public eye. IMO

my daddy taught me to treat all women like ladies, then sort them out. what you call trashy may be different than what i have in mind. if they are trashy, does that mean they are easy? you know you can go over on the by-pass and get some really trashy women CHEAP.

What she's saying Noway, is a man wants a lady on the street but a freak in the sheets.

Or at least that's how a woman should be. If she's trashy it should only be unveiled in the bedroom and only her man should know about that. It shouldn't be obvious to everyone else.

This reminds me of an old country and western song from my childhood "Looking for Love In All The Wrong Places" from the movie "Urban Cowboy" (now one of my favorites) I went out with a few women, that could only best be desribed as trashy in my law school days and in the few months thereafter. During one frustrating evening, I remember having a discussion (after a few beers) as to who'd sung that song. Neither I or my ineubriated friends could think of it. Finally, I talked to my dad a couple of days later and he told me it was Johnny Lee.
Like Lee's song, I am thankful every day that my questions and frustrations were answered.

I have to say that there are alot of single people in Hattiesburg "looking for love in all the wrong places". The problem is that this is still a small town. Everyone knows what everyone else is doing/ dating/ having lunch with/ dinner with/ much less the unsepakable with. There is also a shortage of places for a particular age group to go and hang out. I don't want to go to a bar (club) full of college kids, and I don't want to go to a bar (usually a resturant bar) full of people my parents age. I wish there was a place in town that was truly for people say age 27-40. I am turning 31 this year and there is really no place to go where you can meet "decent" people. Decent means gainfully employed, nice looking ( at least well groomed) who has a pleasant personality who is not on drugs and acts close to their age. So if you run across this place or a guy match ing this decription be sure to post who he is or where the place is as I am sure I am not the only one on this board who has at least those requirements, that are pretty hard to find here in the 'Burg.

I can empathaize with you to a great degree. I remember when I lived in Tupelo right after I started practicing, and how thankful I was planning on getting married. Tupelo, I think, is absolutely the worst singles town in America if you are in your upper 20s, young 30s. Literally, almost everyone gets married when they are 19 or 20...and then you don't see anyone out until they are pushing 40 and divorced. It was literally kids bars or 40+ yr old hang-outs.
Keep your head up though....it will work out for you. If I can find a wife to put up with me for almost five years, I'm convinced anyone can find a suitable spouse.

I owe alot to the lady behind the counter @ Shipley's. She introduced me to my first love. A freshly glazed chocolate covered doughnut. Oh, it was beautiful peoples!!!! I have never been unfaithful to her (the doughnut) after all these years. She definately "adds" to me and my life. *sigh* Thank you, match-maker Shipley's doughnut woman. :smt060

Well, mr noway...there is always something to be said for personality quirks. Meeting the requirements opens the door but doesn't guarantee an extended stay.

Not everyone you meet is a potential mate, no matter how hard you might want them to be.

It takes a lot of resilience to date in today’s society. Especially when you are over 30. I have found that the older I get the more particular I am about whom I will date. It is really just one of nature’s cruel jokes. It is bad enough that the process of ageing itself has reduced the selection of finding an appropriate match but on top of that the pool of potential mates is even further reduced by my own methods of elimination.

That's true. Among my friends, the joke is that I have a "list of five" requirements for a boy. But that's not really true. It's more than five. The five are just the initial decision making criteria, but after that things get more complicated.
I find that I am perhaps a bit of a snob? For example...the boy I've been talking to the last week has the list of five downpat, but he's missing some of the things that are implicit in the list of five. Like an education.

Whenever I meet a girl of interest I really try hard to keep an open mind. Every candidate starts out with the same score. If the subject of my affection meets my basic rules of attraction then I am able to move to the elimination round. This is a very complicated process that has taken me many years to develop through trial and era and I still don’t understand how the hell it works. I try to be open minded and flexible in this round. I wouldn’t want to simply exclude someone because of a couple or even a few things that may not live up to my delusional expectations of my perfect ideal counterpart. My feet are planted well enough on the ground that I realize that this form of perfections is impossible for anyone to achieve. I feel that the ideology of this fictitious person is only a benchmark. A known point of references from which I can begin. Keep in mind that at this point all of this is really useless if the candidate has already eliminated me.

I use the same compatability test that Noway uses. I let her breath on a mirror, and if it fogs up, she's got the date.

Just stay single.
Its really not that bad. I personally was never truly single, I have always dated someone or never went much more than a week or two without having someone to be with.
But since the hurricane, I just havent really cared that much and honestly, it is a good thing.
Sure, I am bound to want to have a SO at some point or another but the time is not now.
