I frequently leave home without my make-up. Today I've got on sunscreen, loose powder, and lip gloss...which I may or may not remember to reapply. Just not that important to me.

If there were that big a difference in how I looked with and without makeup, I'd never the leave the house without it. But fortunately (I guess) it doesn't, so it doesn't bother me to go out without makeup.

I at least have to put on powder, mascara & lip gloss.

Huh?

I don't think it's really a matter of beauty...or someone else's standard of beauty. I'm good at puttin' on the dog when I want to, but that doesn't mean I should have to.

I often go without make-up. However, make-up does wonders for my eyes... especially my lashes.

As you girls age, you'll definitely consider the use of a bit more makeup. At my age, and our recent thread has revealed my current age, I've learned that taking care of your skin is what's most important. A good cleanser, moisurizer and something to remove that puffiness under the eyes is essential to me.

As far as makeup, for the last couple of years, I've been very hooked on Bare Minerals makeup. I can use as little or as much as I want to get the coverage that I need. I really like it and my skin isn't caked with liquid or cream or powder foundations.

But, I try not to go out in pubilc without makeup just because I'd rather the 'wrinkles' and 'age spots' not to be seen!!!! One day y'all will be there and you'll know what I mean!

I don't know QM. I think I have really good examples of ageing in the Sner and the grand-Sner. It's extremely rare for the Sner to wear make-up (she's 50 this year), and the grand-Sner won't go out of the house without a little rouge and some lipstick but that's it (she's 78 this year). They both have relatively unwrinkled skin. We've always taken really good care of our skin (we're pretty pale...got started on that kick young after a couple of second degree burns from sun exposure; I'm much more suspectible than either of them are). The Sner actually just recently sent me a whole new stock of the skin care products I (we) use.

As a sort of tangent, I love Bare Escentual products (the company that makes Bare Minerals). They make a facial mask called something like Deep Sea detox. It is dense and heavy and black. (you have to be careful with it when you wash it off because it will stain your towels and washclothes) They didn't make it for a couple of years because the minerals in it were causing the jars to seal shut, and I about died. Actually, I'm about to run out of it. May need my friend to stop by the shop near her and pick some up for me. They also make some moisturizers for the body are are luscious, which is good for my dry skin. Very thick and rich, but not at all greasy. I miss Bare Escentuals. :smt009

Just wanted to pass along.

Actually, I've only ever seen that you can buy the Bare Minerals online. When I click on the BE Body, I don't go to a shopping page like with the make-up. :smt102

Thanks jmb...unfortunately, they only carry a very limited selection. Of what they have, the liquid loofah and body polish is good stuff, as is the Cush Plush all over cream. They don't carry my deep sea Detox, which is the stuff I absolutely love (and need).

:smt102

Shan owes me, though. For all the stuff I pick up at Hudson's for her, she can drag herself to Cherry Creek and score me some facial mask...at $30 a pop.

I really like the Physicians Formula brand of makeup. It goes on smoothly and it is light, not heavy. The eye shadow is the best! Plus it is better for your skin... I mean, if we are going to wear makeup why not make it good for us? However, I just can't get away from my Full 'n Soft mascara... it's just too good.

QM, i totally agree about telling the girls to take care of their skin. i am paying now for all the years i "laid out" in my back yard in my younger years getting my tan, although i usually started out the first 4 or 5 times getting burnt, especially on my face. of course, in my time, it was really popular to use iodine and baby oil to make u get "red" quicker. there was no such thing as sunSCREEN, just sunTAN lotion. of course, the older women tried to tell me things to do for my skin so it wouldn't be bad when i got older, but when u r young, u don't listen to those things.

I don't see anything wrong with fair skin. As a matter of fact, it appears more healthy than all of those women who tan. Tanning makes your skin become leathery, while not tanning keeps your skin as soft and beautiful as porcelain. Look at Marilyn Monroe! She didn't tan, and she was considered one of the most beautiful women ever. I do not tan either. If you don't like my pale skin, you don't have to look at me. :)

My mother. In old Norse, "Sner" means Mother and in Scandanavian countries, "sner" is still used as a diminutive for "mother".

I never leave home without makeup unless there is an emergency. Luckily I have my handy makeup travel bag in my purse for any touch ups needed on a daily basis.

Wouldn't consider ever going out without at least mascara and lipstick. GOD! People don't want to see me like that. I don't feel good without it and if you don't feel good about yourself others pick up your negative vibes too. Wear makeup and be positive! I am addicted to the sun but I have been wearing a hat for 2 years now while I lay out.

I agree! For the longest time I tried to tan, but I never got that beautiful tan instead I got a terrible burn! I've learned to embrace my fair skin also!!!! It's better than the pain from a burn! My youngest sister, on the other hand, tans beautifully. She plays softball and is in the sun year round. She gets those natural highlights in her hair and beautiful tan (Makes me sick!). :-D
