So, ummmm....being from a land where Mardi Gras isn't that big of a deal (I had a student move to Reno from Kiln and he was crushed when I told him that we didn't get a day off for Mardi Gras and that there were no parades), I have never had king cake before. In looking at it, though, it reminds me strongly of a cheese danish (http://www.fierafoods.com/index.jsp?cid=88&code=03127&category=ZERO+TRANS+FAT&subcategory=Mini+Danish+-+Proof+%26+Bake&name=ZTF+MINI+CHEESE+DANISH%2C+sugared+1.0oz%2F300&pnum=1). Now that I have purchased on from Paul's Pastry, would it be sacrilegious to pop the thing in the microwave for a flash to warm it up?

OK. Thanks. I'm not a cake person, nor much of a sweets person, but I figured I'd give it a shot.

Don't EAT the baby!!! If you find the baby in your piece of king cake, then you have to buy the next king cake!!
And don't heat it too much or you'll melt the baby! Now that would be nasty. And probably not do your mouth too much good if it sticks to it. :smt118

It depends how fresh it is for me whether or not I heat it up. The real original king cakes didn't have cream cheese, strawberries or all that other stuff in the middle. Cream cheese is my favorite though. Try not to heat or eat the baby.

So if I bought the king cake and get the piece with the baby, do I have to buy another king cake? Sounds a bit like a pastry racket to me. :smt102 :-D

No, you save two small pieces and if you happen to get the baby, put it back in the cake and when somebody comes over, offer them a piece of king cake and give them the piece with the baby in it and tell them they have to bring you some when they buy it.

Hmmmmm...sounds like I'm going to have to lure someone to my lair to have a piece of king cake. Hmmmmmmm...wonder what unsuspecting schmuck I can invite over....:smt102

Personal opinion...king cake is better warm. But, not high on my list of must-haves.

I have never heated my king cake. But I do like king cake, just not heated (or at least I don't think I do b/c I have never tried it that way).

My sister has sent us king cakes from Paul's Pastry for several years now. It's really too sweet for my taste but hubby and the kids like eating it. Usually I'll eat one small piece just to take part in the fun of it. Year before last, instead of using Paul's, she ordered it from a bakery in Natchez that was close to where she works. Can you imagine my surprise when I opened the box and saw this??? lol This was not after being cut into; this is the freshly opened box.

They took the box, put the cake in it, added the trinkets, closed the box, sealed it, and off it went. No packing to keep it from shifting, no plastic to keep the icing off the cardboard, nothing. Not only did ours arrive this way, but Mother's did too.

It looks like the Postal employees opened and ate on it to me.

It does, doesn't it? lol I can't blame this one on the postal employees; it came UPS. Plus the box was still sealed.

we received a King Cake from Randazzo's today at work from one of my bosses clients. IT WAS WONDERFUL, so very fresh, and looked just as good as the pics on their web site!
