    Christmas lights...

Hey ya'll...I know it may be a little early for this, but I'm just curious if anyone knows some places in the Oak Grove area that usually have a lot of Christmas lights. Thanks.

I think we went to the one in Purvis last year. It was pretty good, and free. They do take donations. If I'm thinking of the right one, it seemed more geared toward kids, but us being big kids at heart, it was fun.

Glad to hear this, I had been told they stopped this. It is a very good display.

Also, USM will be lighting Christmas trees in early December. That should be neat. I tried finding the date and couldn't track it down.

    Re: Christmas lights...

I just got a flyer for the Christmas tree lighting at USM. It will be December 2 at 5:15 on the front lawn of campus. It says the activities are creating your own ornament, decorating cookies and pics with Santa, then the lighting will actually start at 6pm.

    Re: Christmas lights...

The city park in Collins has a really nice light display. I would assume they will do it again this year. Anyone else know anything about it? Would be a good stop if you are traveling through the area anyway.

Well we've got the Mayor's Tree Lighting, the Christmas Parade, and the Candlelit Christmas in downtown Hattiesburg.

We've been several years to White Chapel. It's a family tradition especially now with our grandchildren. Last year we went to the Purvis Christmas parade then out to see the lights. It's not in Oak Grove but well worth the drive!!

This is not Oak Grove... but if you go to laurel. find the park where they have day in the park.. It is on 7th ave. They have an awesome light show. rocket taking off. bears throwing a ball back & forth. merry-go-round... all kinds of neat stuff. It takes them about a month to get all the lights up. You can also park your car & walk through the park. Great for the kids.

Do the folks in Mosselle still do christmas in the woods?

Also if ya don't mind the drive, Fairhope , Alabama is beautiful during christmas. The whole downtown area really gets into it and they step out.

They quit a few years ago. The daughter that did a lot of the work moved to Taylorsville and their dad passed away a couple of years ago.

Lewis Light Display is on White Chapel Rd., about 5 miles north of Purvis, MS, 1/2 mile off US 11. We turn the lights on each Thanksgiving about 5:30 pm. Hours: 5:30pm until 9pm weather permitting Thanksgiving through Dec. 31.

Even though they don't make a big deal out of it, I encourage everyone to put something in the donation basket. They spend a lot of money to give us something beautiful every Christmas. Please help them out. Just think of what their power bill must be! Please consider a donation as you go through the wonderful display. BTW: The donation basket is beside the sign in book.
    Thanks!
