Local Restaurant In Contest for Best Burger in Mississippi

Heard this on the news last night. 2 Brothers is the only restaurant in the Pine Belt area in the running. They really do have great burgers.

One of the top 10 best burgers in the Magnolia State is 2 Brothers Grill in Oak Grove. They are number one on the Mississippi Beef Council Best Burger Top Ten List.

When I get ready for a good burger I head to Burger King.

I will have to go by there and have them build me a mushroom, bacon, cheese(pepper jack), burger dressed (hold the mayo) and see how they stack up against K&B, and Sidelines.
Due to budget cuts, the light at the end of the tunnel has been turned off.

We went to 2 Brothers and left unimpressed. It was the most predictable, unremarkable burger joint experience imaginable. Mediocre. Plus, a burger joint that won't let you order your burger cooked how you want should be disqualified from any "best burger" contests IMO.

    Never heard of them.

I'm fond of Ward's Big One and chili-cheese dogs though.

When I worked in Biloxi we had several H'burg natives there and one of our drivers made frequent deliveries to the 'burg. He always took orders for dogs and burgers to bring back from Ward's.

How many of y'all ever went to The Frostop that the Ward brothers owned before there was Ward's?

I still remember the Lottaburger and those brown glass gallon jugs of rootbeer that you could buy.

Agreed. We ate their once. Once was enough. Charged extra for sweet potato fries (not disclosed by the menu or server) nickle and dimed you to death for extra sauce, mediocer food and service. Once was enough. Cannot believe they would even be in the running for best anything.

I can't see how someone can get excited over a hamburger.

When I worked at a food establishment in Hattiesburg, I occasionally had to take orders when the servers were really busy or we were short handed. If someone ordered a burger and asked for it cooked less than done, we had to tell them that they could not be served that way. Manager told us that it was against the rules or something, about the undercooked meat that it could make someone sick and they could sue.

Now, the manager that told me that no longer works there, that person has moved to another restaurant in Hatti.
Again, I know for a fact that even though we were *told* this, there were always people sending back burgers that were still bloody in the center.
Lastly, if I am eating any type of ground meat that was not prepared by me, as in ground and pattied by me, I'm not eating it ANY less than done... You can get very sick, even if the places the meat is prepared is sanitary, if the meat was not handled properly bacteria on the outside can get ground into the inside, then it can harm you if the burger isnt completely cooked.

Just my take on the possibility of why they don't take burgers medium or rare, IF that is what you meant... If not, disregard all of that lol.

And Mugshots has the best burgers I have ever eaten. End of story

...I don't think many folks really understand what Sysco is. I mean, you can buy school cafeteria food, or sushi grade tuna that is better than a grocery store.

They are a supplier, not a discount food source. They offer some incredibly quality stuff.

And them or one of their competitors are where the frozen burger that most of these places serve comes from.

Excellent post Greg, if that's your real name, tee hee.

Sysco will sell you buns, patties, fries, oil and all the fixings. Its up to somebody to put them together.

Shady Acres and Hamburger House are closer to what I would call home made. You could see them patty up the meat.

I moved some of the posts to the Best Hamburger in the Hattiesburg Area thread since that seemed a more appropriate place.

Back in the late 70's or early 80's while they were still open; I called them one day and asked if they still sold those brown glasss jugs of rootbeer.

The Manager was quite for a moment then he said, "No; but since you remember them, come on by in a hour and I'll have one ready."

    I did and he did.

"Inside" knowledge, making one gallon of Ward's rootbeer requires 10 pounds of sugar.

I don't know what "piece of the place" you have; I sure wish I had that huge plastic frosty mug of rootbeer that sat atop their sign.
