    2013 Mayoral race candidates

Well, Shawn O'Hara has finally thrown his hat in the ring, as well as Catherine Starr. http://www.hattiesburgamerican.com/a...g-mayoral-race

So now we have Dupree, Ware, Jordan?, Starr, and O'Hara. Did I miss anyone?
I am happier with my brain. Definitely.

I guess I should have read all of the article, it also says Clyde Stewart is running but doesn't mention Nathan Jordan.

How do you become "the" perennial candidate (Shawn O'Hara)? It seems competition for that dubious honor should include Catherine Starr with her at least 10 year long loosing record.

Seems O'Hara has lost for even longer, and on a grander scale.
    Ask me about Haywood.

I guess the battle begins today. Please inform and educate me over the next few months, I'm a Hattiesburg newbie (2 1/2 years).

    Who's on the ballot?
    Candidates qualify for municipal elections
The fields have been set for this year’s municipal elections.
Friday marked the qualifying deadline for those seeking office as mayor, councilman and alderman.
The primary election is May 7, followed by the general election on June 4.
Municipal offices are for four-year terms.

    Hattiesburg

The mayoral race in the Hub City has the largest number of candidates of any election taking place in the area with

and blogger, and retiree Catherine M. Starr.
The independent candidates include current Ward 4 Councilman Dave Ware, perennial candidate Shawn O’Hara,
community activist Nathan Jordan and landscape contractor Clyde Stewart.
Here is a look at Hattiesburg’s other races:
    Ward 1
    • Kim Bradley, Republican (incumbent)
    • Justin Codey Herrington, Democrat
    • Derrick Ware, independent
    Ward 2
    • Deborah Denard Delgado, Democrat (incumbent)
    • Luther Reid, Democrat
    Ward 3
    • Carter Carroll, Republican (incumbent)
    Ward 4
    • Mary Dryden, independent
    • Chris Price, independent
    • Petra Arnold Wingo, independent
    • Jon Witt, Democrat
    Ward 5
    • Kavaji S Beverly, independent
    • Rose Mary Harrell, Democrat
    • Henry Naylor, Democrat (incumbent)
    • James Douglas Sullivan, independent

Does every MS city have so many loony people running for mayor, or is Hattiesburg unique in that regard?

O'hara is a nut and Ware can't get elected and Garmon isn't even a factor in the city. Four more for Dupree unless there is a miracle.

So the only party holding a primary in Hattiesburg will be the Democratic Party, all Republicans are running unopposed. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

    Re: 2013 Mayoral race candidates

We have to get behind someone who can win.

A ton of candidates dilutes the real "need" which is NO MORE DUPREE.

Unfortunately, it seems like he will be left the keys to the castle, needing only to sway a few more people than everyone else. He will do that.
