A couple of you may have read my little write-up about my first autocross last month.... Well, I had my second one today!
The first one was a bit of a disappointment, but this month's event was amazing.
I drove the same car, my friend's 96 V8 Miata, but this time it was on racing slicks.
We got there early this time, registered, walked the track, and payed. All of that was different from the first time lol. Today's track was a lot faster, a bit less technical, and demanded a smooth driver to be fast. Adam (owner of the car) was not driving this time, but I did co-drive with one of the guys that runs the show, Benson. Benson is a badass freakin driver. He has all these certifications and has been through all these driving schools and even teaches driving school now... So.... He's a damn good driver.
The day consisted of 2 rounds; the first round was 2 runs, and the second round was 3 runs. My first run, I took it easy to learn the track, and ran a 41.6. Adam came up after the first run and told me that I was faster than the brand new Z06 Corvette, which made me happy lol. My second run was 40.3. I talked to a couple guys after the first round and found out that all the faster cars were running around 38-39 seconds, so I was pretty close!
Time for round 2! First run: disaster. I had a serious brain fart and completely missed a turn in the middle of the track. My second run was my fastest of the day at 39.6. Benson then took the wheel and made a few passes back to back, running a fast lap of 38.3. That's right, the pro was only 1.3 seconds faster than me! That made me feel REALLY good! He actually told me he was pretty impressed with the way I drove one turn, where I got sideways, held it all the way through the turn, and carried a whole lot of speed to the straightaway.

My third run was exhausting. The tires were hot and slick, so I was sliding all over the track. I spent most of the run countersteering and fighting understeer in the turns. By the end of the track I was so tired I just eased it through the final turns.
We were able to make some free runs afterwards. I wasn't ready to stop yet so I made 5 more runs just to practice.
Results:
Fastest lap of the day: 37.1
My lap: 39.6
I was sixth fastest on the day. For my second time, and with the car needing a little more tuning, I am extremely satisfied with today's results.
The coolest thing of the day for me happened between two of my free runs. One of the more experienced, older guys walked up to my car and said "You ran good today, you drove really well." Coming from a guy like that, it meant a lot and makes me extremely excited about what I can continue to do with this. I'm freakin STOKED! Sorry for the long write-up, and for those of you who read all the way through, thanks
I should have some videos of my runs and more uploaded this week, but in the meantime, here are some pics.
