Does anyone have any info about the smoking ban in restaurants & bars in H'burg?
I have heard a lot of conflicting rumors.
I find it hard to believe that the city would do something that stupid and harmful to businesses, but in the current govt., who freakin' knows.
I feel very out of the loop on this & would appreciate any info.

I have heard a little about this. It would be a complete ban on smoking from what I have heard. Any business that is open to the public would be non smoking and have restrictions on where the smoking areas out side would be. this would include the areas outside of a resturant like chesterfields patio- that would be non smoking, as well as the outside part of the hog, the balcony at 206 and brownstones and the entire keg and Barrell outside

i smoke, and i don't mind going outside to smoke just out of courtesy of others...hell even when i am standing on a sidewalk and someone walks by i at least try to move out to the street to keep the smoke from them...
BUT i have the right to smoke, and a business owner has the right to say if someone can smoke in his establishment....isn't there something in the constution that will keep gov't/ACS from telling you what to do in your business?

Too many people in the US think that businesses are given to them by the government or something, that somehow it's a right to have business provided to them. They seem to forget that businesses are started and owned by real people who do it mainly to make money from it.
Just listen to all the comments about "why don't we have an Olive Garden, or why don't they bring in this or that" like the government provides those things.
Except for Wal-Mart. They do it to rule the world. They're evil, I tell you, evil.

I recieved a letter in the mail at work a few weeks ago about some meeting that was to be held somewhere at some time about making Hattiesburg a smoke free city. Some lady wrote it. I know that's really no help, but it really doesn't apply to me, as we don't have an indoor eating area nor do I smoke.

I'm not a smoker. Never have been. Never will be. But IMO, government imposing bans on businesses as a whole is as f***ked up as having Kenneth Fairley running the city of Hattiespatch. It's not getting us anywhere, but it's happening just the same.

Yeppo. And these individuals provide jobs for others to provide for their families and risk their capital to do it.
honestly...i lived in orlando while the smoking ban took effect and people just got over it
it wasnt bad for business...they just smoked elsewhere
Same thing happened here in NYC. Bars & Restaurants bemoaned the coming economic disaster, a few people threatened to have it overturned citing constitutionality, etc...
The end result? None of it happened. Smoking was banned, no one shut down, the law wasn't overturned and now I can go out for a drink without coming home smelling like the Quality Assurence Manager for Marlboro.

WE SMOKERS' HAVE DETERMINED THAT "B!TCH!NG IS HAZARDOUS TO OUR HEALTH!!!!! I RESPECT A PERSON'S RIGHT IF THEY DON'T CHOOSE TO SMOKE, THAT IS FINE WITH ME...BUT I WOULD LIKE FOR MY RIGHTS TO BE RESPECTED! I DO CHOOSE TO SMOKE. I KNOW ALL OF THE DANGERS OF SMOKING AND CHOOSE TO SMOKE ANYWAY. I THINK THAT PUBLIC BUSINESSES SHOULD HAVE A "SMOKING SECTION" AND A "NON-SMOKING SECTION" AND IF A PERSON DOESN'T WANT TO BE AROUND SMOKE THEN STAY THE HELL OUT OF THE "SMOKING SECTION"!
My problem with this ....is what is next?..........Fried food can cause heart disease so do you allow businesses to sell fried food ?.......I just dont feel like it is the government's job to tell a business they cant allow a legal activity to go on in thier business.
