Word is that the HPD is being evaluated to see if they should be re-accredited. As part of this process they are sending out a survey to a random selection of residents. As another part they will be accepting public comment by means of a published telephone number.
I have not yet found out the telephone number, but it should be available pretty soon.
This is a good way for anyone here to let the outside evaluators know of your experiences with HPD. If you are happy, let them know. If you are unhappy, let them know.
It's worth mentioning that HPD is bigger than one person, so I'd urge anyone commenting to address the department as a whole rather than focus on any particular personality.

I know there are not many on this site, but for non believers, THEIR IS A GOD! If this is true our prayers have been answered sooner instead of later.
The accredation people take the process VERY seriously...I do not think they would take lightly some of the stuff that has happened at the p.d. We all need to write or call with our concerns....or do both! I hope everyone backs up their complaints on this site with complaints to someone who just may can help us out of the dire situation we are in.

Just remember, it's not the street officers fault that the administration has done what it's done. Most of them are good officers that care about this city.

EXACTLY Igid and we need to point the finger where it belongs... Chief. David Wynn! Also his ass-kissers, Misenhelter and Sims! praise for the street officers and the civilians who have toughed it out...even for those who have left...it would have caved in along time before it did had they not been their to keep things going as smoothly as they could.
That's interesting that they have it at the training academy. That's not really a place I'd want to go and criticize HPD. I think it should be at a less biased appearing/threatening location. Nobody likes to ge a guest in someone's home and criticize the host.

Absolutely.
This is an opportunity for all to speak in public, in front of neutral evaluators, about your opinion of how well the department performs. I would think that anyone who criticized personalities would make less of an impression that someone who addressed the strengths and/or weaknesses of departmental practices.

In a way I would hate to see HPD lose their accredidation after so many good officers and administrators worked so hard to attain it, but on the other hand it's not really fair for the current administration to be able to brag about it when they've done nothing but derail the department.
Maybe losing accredidation would be a wake-up call to some who are obviously asleep about what goes on over there.

I think they waited til last minute to announce time and location on purpose. That right will limit the number possible to be able to go and speak negatively because you can be sure as pumpkin pie the positives have been lined up, prepped and dressed ready to go..........

They'd probably just say that all of the people from accredidation have a problem with a black police chief and are racists.

if i was blind and deaf, then yes.....i would think so
at least that is what i'm hoping that the city administration is blind and deaf.....
it would probably be a major blow to the dupree's chances of being re-elected

I just heard about the meeting from the 6:00 news tonight. WDAM is there live. Major Billy Lane said the accreditation board was interested in having public input on the HPD. Apparently HPD was not interested enought to publicize the meeting ahead of time! For those who live in Hattiesburg and can not attend the meeting: call the PFTA where the meeting is being held and see if that will work. 601-545-4650.

I went to the meeting tonite at the academy...there were 3 men on the assessment team...in attendance were approx. 12-15 people other than p.d. personel.
3 people got up to speak and they praised the p.d. and the chief and his cronies like they were Jesus! (not to be rude) They all gave glowing reports to the assessment team..two of the men that spoke was from high class neighborhood assoc. about town, the third man was from the N.A.A.C.P. (surprise, surprise, surprise!)
I was so pissed I did not get up to speak, if I had I probably would have ended up in jail...at the least I would have embarrassed myself. My b.p. went up about 80 points to be sure! I did ask about other ways to contact the team and was given the following info:
They will take calls tomorrow at the p.d. It will be a private line and ONLY the assessment team will be there...you can call 545-4901 or 545-4903 and ask for the conference room...also you can write letters or call the CALEA office...their info is as follows:

I urge everyone who is truely concerned to either write or call one of the listed numbers. The Burg will never see a change for the positive until this admin goes...and it is beginning to look like at the rate it is going it will never GO!
We can all sit here and bitch and moan amongst ourselves and it isn't doing a dang thing..this is the chance to actually maybe make a difference. Please use it to our advantage IF you truely care about our stake in this town. I honestly think that IF they get enuf (ANY) complaints about what down to earth honest taxpaying citizens think it will make a difference.
Like someone said before, on one hand I hate to see the p.d. loose what so many of us worked so hard for...and it took us years...but on the other hand I really hate the fact that the chief waltzes in tells everyone how well things are going and takes all the credit when in fact all he has done is tear our hard work down. I think if accredation is lost, it may spur the mayor to sh** or get off the pot and do something about the admin. at the p.d. He will also have to wonder IF he could actually get re-elected without the white votes!

So we just call or write and basically say "Wynn is bad". Or is accreditation about more than the chief and the decimation of the department?
I know that Wynn has to go, but not truly understand the accreditation process in the first place and what it means to have it, I'm not entirely sure if this is the right arena for that particular ax.
I guess I'm trying to figure out how to blame Wynn without making it seem like a witch hunt.
