For years, Hattiesburg prided itself on having some of the most reasonable gas prices in the state, but in the past couple of years the trend seems to have reversed itself. There is no reason for gas prices here to be 25 cents per gallon or more higher than other cities in our state. For the past few weeks, gas has been around 15 cents less in Collins, less than thirty minutes up the road!!
I remember gas prices went down in the Tupelo area after Jamie Franks blustered about holding hearings on the subject -- I was jokingly telling a couple of my Democratic colleagues in the bar, that perhaps Percy Watson should bluster like this to bring our prices back down!
Maybe Joey and Harvey would see to that for us, huh?

Hell, for that matter - you better avoid them all! Come to Columbia it's just $2.16 here!

Crude traded down to $50 and change, yesterday. Wholesale gasoline at @1.37.
Looks like out news media is sitting on their asses again on this story, regarding why H'burg's gasoline is the highest in the state?
And what would gas prices at the pump have been when crude was trading at $50 a few years ago...$1.55? Just another example of it getting stuck to us by "the man" lol

Look up WJTV.com (t.v. station in Jackson) and pull up the story on Bradley Morris. I don't know how to do links, etc. But watch this video from their Top Story last week on Thursday, I think. This guy is a piece of slime.

saw gas for 2.09 at the station by olive garden in Hattiesburg.
Wow! And I thought we were doing good here today with a whole .01 drop to 2.15. Maybe Columbia will be next. But then again, probably not.

It should if it will stablize down at this level long enough for the futures traders to mellow out. One the other hand, we seem to always be just one geopolitical event from oil flow disrutption and continued higher prices. All the oil producers really got spoiled at the $60 p/b plus, and I think most would like to see something happen to get it back up there.
I tried to give you rep Hawk, but I have to spread it around. I agree, and the producers have seen that the economy will support these high prices we've gotten used to...people still have to buy gas. They surely hope prices will go back up. I suspect that if oil does start going back up prices as the pump will rise very disproportionally.

The question is why is Hattiesburg higher than surrounding areas? According to national map data, Hattiesburg had the highest gas prices in the state a few days ago.
Gas prices across the Pine Belt differ greatly because of the Distributors (who set the price they will sell to retailers at). The retailers add one to seven cents and that's what you pay. In our area there are only a couple of Distributors who 'set' prices and if none of the Independents or Majors not buying from them don't lower their prices first, then our local distributors see no reason to cut their bottom line and help the consumer. Only when someone outside drops the price first will someone (for instance Morris Oil) drop theirs (FYI - 'Old Lady' saw a clip on WJTV of a grandson of this clan who owns a distributorship in the Jackson area and noted he was a piece of 'slime'). These local folks have been keeping the price up in our area for at least the past 4 decades and don't see any reason to drop prices when they can reap fat profits themselves. Can't say more without getting personal - but I stay 'gassed' about it all the time.........................
I caught the end of a clip on wdam about prices around here.
I want the prices to keep falling, but I hope it does not cause the alternative stuff to stop. Would be nice if we did not have to buy oil from those people over in the desert and such.
