Why should I register?
In order to fully utilize the abilities of this forum, the administrator will probably require that you register as a member. Registration is free, and allows you to do the following:
To register, you will need to specify a username and password, and a valid email address. Entering your email address will not leave you open to 'spam', as you can choose to hide your email address, and messages sent to you via email do not reveal your address to the sender in any case. (To verify this, you can try sending an email message to another user.) The administrator has configured the forum to send you the final part of the registration process by email, so ensure that the email address you provide is valid and working.
I just signed up, why can't I create a new thread?
In order to discourage spam and threads intended to start arguments, we require members to have at least 20 posts before they can start a thread in most forums. This gives them a chance to get involved in the community, as well as, become accustomed to where new threads should go and what the forum rules are. You can easily gain the required number of posts in the forum games section and by posting an introduction in the Introduce Yourself forum, which is the only one a new member can post a new thread in.
Avatars? Signatures? Custom Titles? What are those?
There are many ways to customize your experience here at My Hattiesburg. One of those is through the use of an avatar, which is a little picture that appears next to your name. Avatars can be edited via the UserCP. We have a range of avatars available to you, or you can create a custom avatar of your own. Please remember to keep the picture appropriate-no nudity, no sexual activity, no attempts to harass or demean other members.
You can also create a signature that appears below each of your posts. Your signature can consist of a phrase or a picture of both. The same rules that apply to avatars apply to signatures, with the additional guideline that pictures in signatures be small in size. If the photo you select is too big, your signature may be edited.
Custom Titles are available to you when you meet a posting requirement. After you've made 1,000 posts, through the User CP, you can edit the phrase that appears below your name and next to your avatar. As with signatures and avatars, they need to be appropriate. Additionally, there are some custom titles that are not available to you, and those include variations on administration, advisory board, moderator, ANYTHING ELSE?
What are hub bucks?
Hub bucks are a kind of currency we have here at the forum. You can gain hub bucks through 4 different ways.
What's the Advisory Board?
The Advisory Board is a group of members of the site who have been elected or appointed to serve in an advisory capacity. It's a smaller group of people who give the administrator input on and insight into the various actions he's considering taking with regard to the site. The advisory board is separate from the moderators and the members of the advisory board do not serve in an enforcement role. So what kinds of things can we post about here?
Pretty much anything you want to. Most of the sections of the site are fairly self-explanatory. If you're not sure where a topic goes, put it in Off-Topic. If want to post something that might be considered to be of an adult nature or a bit “off-color”, join the After Hours group and post it there.
Groups? What are groups?
There are several smaller communities on My Hattiesburg that have been formed based on common interests. Some of those groups, like the Fish in the Sea group as well as the After Hours Group, are public groups and membership is open to any regular member of My Hattiesburg. Other groups are private and membership is based on approval by group moderators. You can find out more about joining and creating groups on our About My Hattiesburg Groups page
What is vBookie?
vBookie is an addon to the forum that allows our members to wager hub dollars on games setup by our “bookies”. You can click on any upcoming games, pick who you think will win and wager the amount of hub dollars you would like. Sometime after the game is over, we'll settle the bets and the money will be added to your account. At the end of the NFL/College season, we'll determine who is the season winner by checking to see who won the most money over the course of the season.
What is reputation and reputation power?
Reputation has a special meaning here at the My Hattiesburg forums. It not only signifies you make a lot of quality posts on the forums, but can also be a deciding factor in moving you across different groups (giving you more/less privileges). Please consider your decision carefully before adding/subtracting reputation from someone. If a member's reputation gets too low (below -20), they can be banned from the forums. At the top right corner of every member's post, you'll notice a small icon that looks like a scale. This is how you add or subtract reputation from someone by agreeing or disagreeing with their post.
Reputation power is how many reputation points you will give someone when you agree with their post. You will take away half of this amount when you disagree. You gain one more reputation power point in each of these three events:
Every 365 days you have been a member
Every 1000 posts you make
Every 100 reputation points you gain
