Registering at My Hattiesburg

Registering at My Hattiesburg is easy to do and free. At first, it may not seem as easy as some other sites that you have registered at. This is only because we make a conscience effort to cut down on automatic registrations. There are computers that exist solely to automatically register on other sites and post spam messages about a web site. Some of the steps we require you to do here at My Hattiesburg exist so that they cannot be automatically done. We'll attempt to explain the registration process here and things you may need to know.

Register Page

After agreeing to our terms of use, you should see this page:

The first field is for your member name. Be careful what you choose, because it will be how you are known to the community. Some people pick names that reflect their personality, some pick their own given name, and some pick completely random names.

The second is for your password, pick something you will remember and that others can't guess.

The third is your email. It's important that this email address exist and you be able to access it. We will send you a confirmation email after you register. If you put in an incorrect email here, then you will not be able to complete the registration process. We cannot accept AOL email addresses at this time. AOL will sometimes block emails coming from this site, so that you never get your confirmation email. You can register for a free email address at Google, Hotmail, or Yahoo.

The fourth field is a verification field. Simply enter myhattiesburg.com into the box.

The fifth is your birthday. This is required, but you can choose “Hide Age and Date of Birth” if you would like to keep that information private.

The other fields are optional, but notice the email fields down at the bottom. If you do not want to recieve emails about any private messages, or subscriptions you may have, then un-check the box that says “Receive Email from Administrators”.

Confirmation Email

You should get a confirmation email within minutes of completing the registration above. This is sent simply to insure that you own the email address you entered into the system. You should see something that looks like this:

Click the confirmation link (the link that follows this text: “To complete your registration, please visit this url”), or copy/paste it into your web browser(usually Internet Explorer). After doing this, your registration is complete. You can now do things like edit your profile, change your options, or say hi in the Introduce Yourself forum.
